England's Premier League doesn't ultimately produce the best club teams in the world all that often, but with the huge influx of money that has come into the league thanks to television rights, the playing field is a lot more level and teams have a chance to make some huge strides straight out of the blocks. That's why the price of relegation from the EPL is arguably the biggest to pay in all of sports for an unsuccessful season.
AFC Bournemouth
The fact that a tiny team like Bournemouth was able to finish in the top half of the Premier League last season is proof that promotion can do wonders for any team that can survive the Championship.
Arsenal
The consummate underachievers of the Premier League, Arsenal will enter this year with high hopes. That said, Arsene Wenger is in a contract season and is almost certainly set to get sacked at some point.
Brighton & Hove Albion
This is the biggest season in the century-old history of Brighton. The Seagulls are entering the Premier League for the first time in their history in 2017-18. They'll have a tough time staying up for sure.
Burnley
Sam Dyche's club did this right two years ago. The team took the drop three seasons ago, sold Danny Ings at just the right time, and took that money to build the infrastructure of the club. Now, the Clarets are playing a second straight season in the top flight and will bring one of the best home pitch advantages in England into play in '17-'18.
Chelsea
The defending champs of England are hoping to take another big step this season towards proving they're the best there is in the nation. The Blues are loaded once again for Antonio Conte.
Crystal Palace
How "Plucky Palace" keeps avoiding relegation is beyond us. This is going to be a fifth consecutive season in the Premier League in spite of the fact that the club has topped out in 10th place.
Everton
Everton is one of these teams that never seems to be that close to relegation and generally isn't close to the Champions League either. A seventh place finish last season will at least see the team into the Europa League this year.
Huddersfield Town
These last couple decades have been horrible for Huddersfield Town. Once the champions of England 90 years ago, Huddersfield spent almost 40 years outside of the top flight. The team is back in the Premier League this year after winning the Championship playoff.
Leicester City
King Power Stadium could be forgiven for being in delirium for a second straight season after winning the Premier League title in the most unpredictable of fashions. That said, the Foxes are a lot closer to relegation than a repeat title performance.
Liverpool
The Reds are going for it this year. They've stocked up on players in the prime of their careers, and they're hoping that another full year of Jurgen Klopp can bring them back to the top of English soccer.
Manchester City
Is the window of opportunity closing at the Etihad? Pep Guardiola is promising huge changes to a side that finished a disappointing third last season.
Manchester United
The Red Devils have swung and missed on a few big studs in the offseason, and they've lost Zlatan Ibrahimovic. This looks like an evolving team, but never count out another spending spree.
Newcastle United
The drop to Championship was short-lived for the Magpies. Newcastle romped to the second division title last year and feel a lot more secure this time around in the EPL.
Southampton
The Saints went full out youth movement a couple years ago and have lived to tell about it. They're a good bet to avoid relegation this year.
Stoke City
The Potters have been avoiding the drop, but Mark Hughes is a good bet to be one of the first managers sacked this season.
Swansea City
The Swans survived last season with a good run at the end of the year. That said, if Gylfi Sigurdsson is really transferred before the start of the season, it'll be hard to stay up.
Tottenham Hotspur
The Spurs finally finished in front of hated Arsenal last season. They're saying all the right things about challenging Chelsea for the EPL title, but they feel like they topped out last season.
Watford
The Hornets were always threatened by relegation last season but lived to tell about it. Watford will hope to avoid losing 13 games on the road again this year.
West Bromwich Albion
Albion had a good season last year, finishing 10th on the table. Adding Jay Rodriguez will only help keep WBA safe again.
West Ham United
The Hammers had a tough season in their first at the London Stadium, going just 7-4-8. That won't cut it to get them into European competition again for sure.
