Huddersfield Town is in the Premier League for the first time in club history. The club is well coached by David Wagner and they have not been afraid to spend money, but the odds are still against them in surviving in the Premier League this season. Huddersfield probably doesn’t have enough on defense to avoid relegation this season and they figure to struggle to score goals but Wagner has said his team will be tough to play against. Oddsmakers set the win total for Huddersfield for the 2017-2018 season at 32.5 and the Terriers are listed at odds of -150 to be relegated.

Huddersfield has no chance to win the Premier League in 2017-2018, so the focus is on avoiding relegation. Oddsmakers don’t like the chances of Huddersfield, as the Terriers are -150 to get relegated after this season. If Huddersfield is to be competitive they will have to improve on their goal differential, as they were -2 in the Championship last season.

What's New?
Huddersfield wasn’t shy about spending money, as they brought in Elias Kachunga from Ingolstadt, Laurent Depoitre from Porto, Aaron Mooy from Manchester City, Tom Ince from Derby, Steve Mounie from Montpellier, Scott Malone from Fulham and Mathias Jorgensen from FC Copenhagen. They also got Jonas Lossl on loan from Mainz), Kasey Palmer on loan from Chelsea and Danny Williams from Reading.
Manager David Wagner is hoping the newcomers will adjust well to his system. “We want speed in our game, everything full throttle, we want aggression, we like to press high, we like to keep the ball, we like to show emotion.” Wagner said recently to the Express that he is not going to change his style or his approach simply because his team is in the Premier League. “It doesn’t depend on being in the Premier League or Championship either, only on my love for the game. I will never change and if you watch football in Brazil, for example, you might think I’m very calm by comparison!”
He said that his team will be tough to play against. “We are ambitious enough to say that we will work our socks off and try everything to make it as uncomfortable as possible for our opposition.”
What's Gone?
The Terriers lost Joe Murphy to Bury and released Flo Bojaj. They also loaned out Tareiq Holmes-Dennis to Portsmouth and Jack Payne to Oxford. None of those losses are of any consequence.
Huddersfield 2017-18 Predictions
It will be very difficult for Huddersfield to avoid a last place finish in the Premier League in 2017-2018. The team wasn’t anything special last season in the Championship, as they finished fifth but they earned promotion by winning the playoff. Mooy is a good player but unless some of the newcomers like Ince and Mournie play really well it is going to be a long season for the Terriers.
Another problem for Huddersfield in 2017-2018 is holding on to Wagner as manager. Many other clubs are said to be targeting Wagner so this might be his last season with the Terriers.
Huddersfield is going to struggle to score goals, as they simply don’t have enough talent up front. Mounie could be in over his head in the Premier League and if he doesn’t score, Huddersfield has no real chance to be competitive.
Just making the Premier League is a huge deal for Huddersfield who has already sold over 20,000 season tickets. Even if they don’t stay up, the season is a success. Based on the current odds, it seems very likely that Huddersfield will be relegated in 2017-2018. The best case scenario would have them staying in the relegation fight until late in the season and getting everything to go their way in the last couple of weeks.
