Watford has found a way to survive in the Premier League the last two seasons and they did so each time with a different manager. Can they do it again in 2016-2017? Two years ago it was Quique Sanchez Flores leading the team to a 13th place finish, while last year it was Walter Mazzarri leading them to a 17th place finish. Marco Silva takes over this year and he has his work cut out for him if the Hornets are to avoid relegation. Watford did make some good additions this summer, adding Will Hughes, Nathaniel Chalobah and Kiko Femenia along with Andre Gray and Richarlison. Oddsmakers are not sure the additions will be enough to keep Watford from being relegated. The point total for Watford for 2016-2017 was set at 37.5 and that would put them in relegation danger.

Odds To Be Relegated: +200

Total Points Over/Under: 37.5

Watford has no chance to win the Premier League, so the focus is on whether or not they can avoid relegation. Last year the Hornets finished with 40 points, which was just six points above the relegation zone. Oddsmakers don’t think Watford is going to be as good this season with the point total at 37.5, so relegation is definitely possible. Let’s see if there is value on taking Watford to be relegated at +200.

What's New?

Watford made it official with the addition of Tom Cleverley from Everton. They also added Will Hughes from Derby, Daniel Bachmann from Stoke, Kiko Femenia from Alaves, Harvey Bradbury from Portsmouth, Sam Howes from West Ham, Richarlison from Fluminese and Nathaniel Chalobah from Chelsea.

Watford also made a major move by signing striker Andre Gray from Burnley for a club-record transfer fee. He scored 10 goals in 36 appearances last season after scoring 25 goals for Burnley two years ago.

Silva told the Watford Observer that the additions of Gray and Richarlison will help his club. "We did our homework on Andre and analyzed the positions we wanted to sign new players, and of course we saw what he can do for us and it’s easy to see Gray is different from Troy (Deeney) and Stefano Okaka. Andre is a good player, that’s the most important thing. I know he’s a player who wanted to come to Watford, which is also important, and improve in his career.”

Silva believes Richarlison can play on the right or the left. “He can play on the sides and in Brazil he played there. He can play as a striker but we signed him as winger – on the right or left. He's a good finisher with both feet and I believe he’s one boy, a young player, who’s a talent and in the future everybody will see it.”

What's Gone?

Watford lost Rene Gilmartin to Colchester, Mario Suarez to Guizhou Hengfeng Zhicheng, Steven Berghuis to Feyenoord, while Ogo Obi was released.

Watford 2017-18 Predictions

Watford is going to struggle to score goals again this season. Last year they got 10 goals from Troy Deeney and they found a way to get enough from everyone else to survive. Silva is known as a manager who focuses on defense and he will need his club to be stout, as they simply don’t have many scoring options. Getting Roberto Pereyra back from injury should help but low scoring games are still going to be the norm unless they get surprising production from Gray and Richarlison.

Silva made some nice late additions for Watford that may be enough to get his team past the relegation zone. There probably isn’t any value in taking Watford to be relegated with the odds of +200. The value may be in taking the team to go over their point total of 37.5, as the team looks to be a little better than they were a year ago when they finished with 40 points. A 14th or 15th place finish is not too much to ask out of Watford this season.
