The pressure is on manager Slaven Bilic to get off to a good start after the Hammers finished with just 45 points last season. Bilic led the Hammers to a seventh place finish two years ago, but last season the Hammers were never a threat to have a great season. It would definitely help Bilic’s cause if Andre Ayew stays healthy all season and if Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic produce. West Ham brought in Joe Hart and Pablo Zabaleta so perhaps the defense will be better this season. It can’t be much worse, as the Hammers were sixth-worst in the league a year ago. Oddsmakers put the point total for West Ham for the 2016-2017 season at 47.5. That amount of points should keep West Ham above the relegation zone but the Hammers are no threat to win the league.

West Ham United Premier League Futures Odds

Odds To Win Premier League: +6600 (Field)

Odds To Be Relegated: +920

Total Points Over/Under: 47.5

West Ham is listed as part of the field at +6600 to win the Premier League. They are closer to the relegation zone than they are to the Top 4. The Hammers are a tough team to figure, which is why oddsmakers put the point total for the team at 47.5.  Anything from relegation danger to a top-half finish is possible for West Ham this season.

What's New?

The Hammers brought in Pablo Zabaleta from Manchester City, Joe Hart from Manchester City, Marko Arnautovic from Stoke City and Javier Hernandez from Bayer Leverkusen. Bilic had good things to say in his Evening Standard column about the players. “Arnautovic has been one of Stoke’s best players for the past few seasons.” Bilic said, “We know Chicharito can score goals but he also gives you energy, he runs in behind, he links play well. Zabaleta is reliable, responsible and can play in several positions.”

What's Gone?

West Ham lost Stephen Hendrie who went to Southend, Reece Oxford on loan to Borussia Monchengladbach, Alvaro Arbeloa to retirement, Sam Howes to Watford, Enner Valencia to Tigres, George Dobson to Sparta Rotterdam, Darren Randolph to Middlesbrough and Ashley Fletcher to Middlesbrough.

West Ham United 2017-18 Predictions

How much will the additions of Hart, Arnautovic and Chicharito help the Hammers this season? Bilic believes the additions will be enough to get the Hammers a better finish this season. “When you look back on last season, it wasn’t so bad. We finished 11th. That position doesn’t tell the whole truth about the season. Normally, 11th means stability.” Bilic said in his Evening Standard column. “I was very proud of the season but was it the season we wanted? No. I am optimistic about this season and I expect us to go forward, but I am not setting any specific targets now. I don’t believe in that kind of mathematics. I use numbers a lot, but not in this specific. If we continue to work hard, to pull the right way and have that luck with injuries, then we can have a terrific season.”

The problem for Bilic is that the early part of the schedule for West Ham is difficult and if the team starts slowly he may not be around to see the team turn things around. There is no question the Hammers made some nice additions in the off-season, and if they avoid major injuries they should avoid relegation. Finishing in the upper half of the table is definitely a possibility for West Ham if Hernandez has a big season and if Hart plays well.

The point total for West Ham at 47.5 may be too low, as the Hammers have enough talent to surprise some people and finish in 6th or 7th place this season. The big key for the Hammers will be surviving their early schedule that has them playing their first three games of the season away from home.
