It was just five years ago that Bournemouth was playing in League One and now they are firmly in the Premier League. The team finished in ninth place last season, their best-ever finish, as they had 46 points. They were an exciting team to watch, as they scored 55 goals, sixth-best in the league. Manager Eddie Howe expects just as much success in 2017-2018, as the team brought in Jermain Defoe, Asmir Begovic, Connor Mahoney and Nathan Ake. Bournemouth was also able to keep forward Joshua King along with Dan Gosling and Harry Arter. Can Bournemouth duplicate their mid-table finish from last season or will they fall back into a relegation battle?
Bournemouth Premier League Futures Odds
Odds To Win Premier League: +6600 (Field)
Odds To Finish Top 4: +8000
Total Points Over/Under: 42.5
Bournemouth is not good enough to win the Premier League, which is why they are listed as part of the field at odds of +6600. They are also not good enough to compete for a Top 4 position, but they are getting closer. The Cherries had a very impressive season a year ago, as they finished in ninth place and they made some excellent off-season moves to upgrade their offense and their defense. The signings of Begovic and Ake should help the defense, while the addition of Defoe is an excellent one for the offense. It is somewhat surprising that Bournemouth has a point’s total of 42.5 considering they finished with 46 points last season.

What's New?
Bournemouth brought in Asmir Begovic and Nathan Ake from Chelsea, Jermain Defoe from Sunderland and Connor Mahoney from Blackburn. Defoe could really be a great signing and have a major impact for Bournemouth this season. He had 15 goals in each of the last two seasons for a poor Sunderland side.
Defoe said to the Daily Star that he has high hopes for this season. “What is the aim? 30 goals and win the league! I like proving people wrong. It’s a nice feeling. When people say the positive stuff it’s nice, but proving people wrong, that’s nicer.” Defoe could be playing in the World Cup next season, as there is a chance he makes England’s squad.
What's Gone?
The losses for Bournemouth are nothing special, as gone are Callum Buckley, Jake McCarthy and Matt Neale. The team did decide to loan out Lewis Grabban to Sunderland but they should be able to replace him.
Bournemouth 2017-18 Predictions
There is a lot to like about Bournemouth for the 2017-2018 season. They did overachieve last season but they didn’t sit still as they brought in some experienced players to give them more stability. The team has said that Mahoney will play in the under-23’s this season although he already looks good enough to make the starting lineup.
The question we have to answer with Bournemouth is whether they came too far, too fast. They probably did, but the additions of Ake, Begovic and Defoe may be enough to avoid slipping back in the standings. Joshua King had 16 goals last season and Bournemouth was able to hang on to him in the off-season. The question is whether or not King can duplicate that success playing alongside Defoe.
It is amazing what Howe has done with Bournemouth, as they are now thought of as a mid-table Premier League squad. Howe is now mentioned as a possible candidate to take over at Arsenal if Wenger is forced out.
The Cherries should be a middle of the pack team in the Premier League again in 2017-2018, but you may be better served simply to focus on their individual games rather than a season total. One thing you should be able to do with Bournemouth is take their games over the total. Bournemouth scored 55 goals last season and gave up 67. Their games had a combined three goals scored 23 times last season. They simply try and outscore the opposition on a regular basis and that should be the case again, especially with the addition of Defoe.
