Swansea City made an amazing run late last season to avoid relegation, as they won 9 of their last 19 games. Manager Paul Clement took over in early January and led the team to a remarkable turnaround. Whether he can continue that success is questionable, especially since the Swans almost assuredly will lose second-leading scorer Gylfi Sigurdsson to Everton. Oddsmakers don’t think much of Swansea City for the 2017-2018 season, as they set the win total for the Swans at 38.5. That point total would put Swansea in the middle of a relegation fight. Oddsmakers listed the odds of Swansea being relegated at +220.

It is all about survival for Swansea City in 2017-2018, as they have no chance to win the Premier League. There are definite questions as to whether the team has enough talent to avoid relegation but right back Angel Rangel is optimistic. "We hope to carry on that momentum from the end of last season," Rangel told the club website. "Hopefully we can get a few points on the board in the first few games of this season...Because if you do that, it makes things easier as you go on." Oddsmakers have pegged the Swans as one of the worst teams in the Premier League for the upcoming season with a point total of just 38.5

What's New?
Swansea brought in Erwin Mulder from Heerenveen, Tammy Abraham from Chelsea and Roque Mesa from Las Palmas.
What's Gone?
The Swans lost Bafetimbi Gomis to Galatasaray, Borja Baston on loan to Malaga, Jordi Amat on loan to Real Betis, Jack Cork to Burnley, and they released Gerhard Tremmel, Marvin Emnes and Owain Jones.
The Swans will also likely lose Sigurdsson to Everton. Clement said to BBC Sport that the club needs to get the saga over with. "We're at a critical stage and hope it's going to be resolved as soon as possible. They [the club's owners] understand the pros and cons of doing it earlier rather than later. I know for sure they have the best interest of the club in mind. Clearly with each day goes by you get a little bit more frustrated because you don't know if you're going to have the player or if not, will you be able to get in the targets you want."
Swansea City 2017-18 Predictions
The expected loss of Sigurdsson will hurt, so the pressure will be on Fernando Llorente to produce even more. The Swans need someone to pick up the slack and they are hoping that Abraham can be the answer. If the Swans can’t find additional scoring they are in serious trouble because they allowed more goals last season than every other team except for Hull.
Swansea has high hopes for early in the season but it won’t be easy without Sigurdsson and likely without Llorente, who may miss at least a game or two.
This will be the 7th straight season that Swansea City is competing in the Premier League but that streak may come to an end in 2017-2018. The Swans are not a great offense club and they are terrible defensively. You have to give Clement a ton of credit for what he did last year but it is hard to be optimistic heading into the new season. The Swans did very little in the off-season to upgrade their club and asking Abraham to replace Sigurdsson seems foolish.
There seems to be little doubt that Swansea City is going to be one of the bottom teams in the Premier League in 2017-2018. They figure to be in a relegation fight all season with the best case scenario having them find a way to finish 16th or 17th and survive.
