Not many people thought Veracruz would survive last season but manager Juan Antonio Luna did an excellent job and Veracruz actually finished 13th in Clausura. Luna changed the style of this team to a more possession style, with shorter passes and it worked. Ángel Reyna, Adrián Luna and Leandro Velázquez took to the new style and Veracruz was a very competitive squad. Can Luna do it again? He doesn’t have a lot of talent to work with and the club didn’t make many off-season moves, but Luna proved everyone wrong last season, so he shouldn’t be underestimated.
Veracruz Mexican Liga MX Odds
Veracruz is no threat to win a title this season, as it is all about avoiding relegation. Luna is a very good manager and he did wonders last season with limited talent. He may be able to do the same thing again this season, although Veracruz is no real threat to make the playoffs.

Veracruz 2017-18 Predictions
Veracruz improved their defense in the off-season, as they added centre-backs José “Palmera” Rivas and Guido Milán. The team will miss Egidio Arévalo Rios in the midfield but they were able to hold onto Cristian Pellerano and Cristian Valdéz. The addition of Giovani Hernández could be a key one, as he looked good in Ascenso last season.
How the team is going to score goals is the question. Cristian Menéndez could provide a little bit of help but Veracruz needs more out of players like Martín Bravo who has been a bust and Daniel “Keko” Villalva.
Veracruz looks to have a similar squad to the one that just barely avoided relegation last season. That means Luna will have his work cut out for him again. He proved he is up to the task last season and he may be able to keep Veracruz competitive again this season. It would help if the club went out and got him some goal scoring, but that doesn’t look like it is going to happen.
The most likely scenario for Veracruz in 2017-2018 is a lower table finish just above relegation. Luna is simply too good of a manager not to find a way to keep this team up this season.
