Santos was a nice surprise last season in Clausura, as they finished in fifth place. Many of the young players for Santos delivered in a big way last season, as Gael Sandoval, Ulises Rivas, Jorge Sánchez and Gabriel Arteaga played well. Santos lost just once in Clausura last season, although they did play to an amazing 11 draws. Santos didn’t make many changes in the off-season so it will be interesting to see if they are more like the team that finished 16th in Apertura or the team that finished 5th in Clausura. Santos did add Javier Cortes to the midfield and perhaps they can get something out of Brian Lozano.
Santos Mexican Liga MX Odds
Santos probably played over their head in Clausura last season, as it is hard to go from 16th to 5th place in the same year. Santos is probably closer to the team that finished 16th than they are to the team that finished 5th. Santos probably will be on the outside in terms of making the playoffs this season.

Santos 2017-18 Predictions
Santos has three good strikers in Julio Furch, Jonathan Rodríguez and Djaniny Tavares. Furch and Djaniny are inconsistent so the team relies heavily on Rodriguez. He had the most shots on goal in the league last season. The midfield for Santos has Ulises Rivas leading the way for Gael Sandoval and Osvaldo Martínez.
What do we make of what Santos did last season? Santos was a bad team in Apertura last season, as they finished a poor 16th but they were a major surprise, as they finished 5th in Clausura. The 2017-2018 Santos team is basically the same squad as last year. If the team finishes somewhere in the middle, then an 11th place finish would seem the most likely scenario for this season. That may be an optimistic outlook simply because the Clausura finish seems like a mirage. Any team that plays to 11 draws is not one that can be trusted to win games.
Santos has some major concerns in terms of goal scoring, as their only reliable scorer is Rodriguez. If he doesn’t score then this team is really going to have trouble. The defense and the goal keeping is solid for Santos, but in Liga MX you have to score goals to win because so many teams play an exciting, high paced style of offense. Unless Santos makes some more moves it is hard to see them competing for a playoff spot this season. They shouldn’t be in any relegation danger, but a finish outside of the top 10 looks to be the most likely scenario for Santos in 2017-2018.
