One of the teams that could be in relegation danger this season in Liga MX is Puebla. The club finished 12th in Apertura last season and 18th in Clausura. Puebla lost Matías Alustiza in the off-season and he will be tough to replace, not only as a goal scorer, but as a fan favorite. The club will have a new manager this season, as Rafael Garcia takes over for Jose Cardozo. It will be interesting to see if Garcia can inject some life into a dormant offense in 2017-2018.

Puebla Mexican Liga MX Odds

Puebla is not a threat to win Liga MX, so it is all about avoiding relegation for this club. On paper, it doesn’t look promising. The team lost a big goal scorer in Alustiza and really didn’t do anything of consequence to replace him. It could be a tough season for Puebla in 2017-2018.

What's New?

The team added Moisés Munoz, Erik Pimentel and José Guerrero from América, Brayan Angulo from Ludogorets, Félix Micolta from Independiente Medellín, Luis Venegas from Chiapas, Carlos Salom from Unión Espanola and Alonso Escoboza from Tijuana.

What's Gone?

The club lost Matías Alustiza to Atlas, they lost Alexis Canelo, Damián Schmidt, Cristian Campestrini and Iván Centurión, as they were all released and the club lost Robert Herrera to Pachuca.

Puebla 2017-18 Predictions

It will be interesting to see if Puebla can rely upon the players they got from América to save them this season. Puebla is going to miss Alustiza in terms of goal scoring and they will miss Herrera on defense. Perhaps Erik Pimentel can be a replacement but we really don’t know, as he barely played at América. The addition of Moi Munoz in goal might be a good one but that remains to be seen.

The midfield for Puebla looks decent with José “Chepe” Guerrero leading the way. Puebla has a good right win in Félix Micolta who completed 53.7% of his passes last season.

The concern, as expected, is goal scoring, as they need to find someone to rely upon. The contenders are Federico González, Jeronimo Amione, Carlos Salom and Álvaro Navarro. Whenever a team has to go looking for a single striker to provide quality it is almost a given they are going to struggle because none of the players are reliable.

How is Puebla going to score goals in 2017-2018?  They were poor last season in goal scoring and now they are without their top scorer from last year. And they really did nothing to replace him. The players they got from América are unproven, and the rest of the additions are not noteworthy. If Puebla played great defense perhaps they could get by, but they don’t. It all adds up to a bad season for Puebla in 2017-2018 and it could very well result in relegation.
