Monterrey is coming off what can only be considered a disappointing season a year ago, as they finished 9th in Apertura and then lost in the quarterfinals in Clausura after finishing 2nd. The team was also a major bust in the group stages of the CONCACAF Champions League. The pressure is definitely on manager Antonio “Turco” Mohamed to deliver a title this season for the club. Monterrey made a big move in the off-season as they replaced Edwin Cardona with Avilés Hurtado.
Monterrey Mexican Liga MX Odds
Monterrey enters the 2017-2018 season as one of the favorites to win the title. The addition of Hurtado is a huge one, as he gives them a big time scorer to improve what was already a good offensive squad. Anything less than a title will be considered a disappointment for Monterrey this season.

Monterrey 2017-18 Predictions
The loss to Tigres last year in the playoffs did not go over well at Monterrey, but the club did bring back Turco as manager. Another season of disappointment would probably end his time with the club. The good news for Turco is that he has a lot of talent to work with. He has Hurtado to lead the attack along with Dorlan Pabón, Rogelio Funes Mori and Carlos Sánchez. Turco usually goes with a 4-3-3 or 4-2-2-2 formation.
Monterrey was an attacking team a year ago, as they scored 57 goals and created more chances than any other squad. Now they get Hurtado to make them even more dangerous. The question is how well Turco can integrate all the talent at his disposal but it is a nice problem to have. If Dorlan Pabón can create a good relationship with Hurtado then Monterrey has the potential to be a powerhouse squad.
There are no excuses for Turco this season, as it is title or bust. Monterrey has the best offense in the league and it shouldn’t be close. Hurtado is an excellent scorer and he has a lot of support. Monterrey doesn’t get enough credit for their defense, as they are also a stingy squad. They were especially tough at home as they allowed just 8 goals in Clausura last season.
This season should be a good one for Monterrey, as they are clearly one of the top teams in the league. They have a potent offensive attack and they are solid on defense. Monterrey should finish at or near the top of the standings in 2017-2018. If they can avoid injury there is no reason they can’t win at least one title in 2017-2018.
