León is coming off a disappointing season a year ago, as they fell in the Apertura semifinals to Tigres and then the club finished a poor 14th in Clausura. The pressure is on manager Javier Torrente to prove that the club’s fast start a year ago wasn’t a mirage. The problem for Torrente is that his system resulted in León getting less touches of the ball than all other teams in Clausura and teams that don’t keep the ball don’t win that often. Torrente will have a full off-season to get all of his players on the same page, so perhaps León can be improved in 2017-2018.
León Mexican Liga MX Odds
León is an interesting team heading into the 2017-2018 season. We really don’t know if Torrente can make his system work, as his team had success early last season but struggled late. This year will be the true test for Torrente and there is definitely a chance León could be improved.

León 2017-18 Predictions
León finished 8th in Apertura last season and they finished 14th in Clausura. Last season the club played a 4-2-3-1 under Torrente but they may change this season to a 4-4-2. The scoring options for León this season are Luis “Chapito” Montes, Álvaro Ramos and Maximiliano Cerato along with Jorge Pereyra. The club also has Elías Hernández and Andrés “Rifle” Andrade. Rifle is excellent at creating chances and he ranked highly last season in completed passes.
The defense should be a mix of Carlos Felipe Rodríguez,William Yarbrough, Osvaldo Rodríguez, Juan Cornejo, Iván Piris and Fernando Navarro.
There is a lot to like about León entering the 2017-2018 season. The club made some good additions and really didn’t suffer any major losses. They have a manager in Torrente who is highly respected and who fans really like but he needs to prove what he did early last season wasn’t a fluke. León is definitely going to be able to score goals, so how far they go will be determined by their defense and goal keeping.
León is a team that could surprise some people in 2017-2018. They should be going under the radar a bit based on their poor finish of a year ago. They have the talent to challenge the top teams in Liga MX this season and they can make the playoffs. They might not have enough to win the title, but they can definitely throw a scare into the top teams in the league this year.
