Not making the playoffs last season in Clausura didn’t go over well at América in the offseason. The club sacked Ricardo La Volpe and also gone is sporting president Ricardo Pelaéz. The club brought back Miguel “Piojo” Herrera who did a great job with Tijuana. Herrera convinced some of his players to join him at América for this season. The key addition is Guido Rodriguez who was one of the top players in Liga MX last season. He had over 100 tackles and interceptions last season for Tijuana. Herrera also convinced centre-back Carlos Vargas to come to América.
América Mexican Liga MX Odds
América is going to get a lot of respect in Liga MX odds this season. They are probably not on the level of Monterrey but they may not be far behind. The addition of Guido is huge, as he is one of the best players in the league. He not only plays great in the midfield on defense but he also scored five goals on just 20 shots last season.

América 2017-18 Predictions
When Piojo managed América previously he used a 5-3-2 formation. He may use a similar formation this season. América may be best suited to an attacking style. The club has Renato Ibarra who continually opens up the field for his teammates. He had a completion percentage above 65% last season. Cecilio Domínguez didn’t play that much last season but was great when he was in action. The midfield is loaded with talented players, as in addition to Guido, they have Peralta and Romero. They also have Silvio up front. The concern for América is their depth. They don’t have many quality oppositions behind their starters. They also lack scoring punch off the bench.
There is a lot to like about América heading into the 2017-2018 season. They have their man back at the helm in Piojo and they have one of the top players in the league in Guido. There is no question that América is going to be an exciting team to watch, as they have plenty of goal scoring options. How far they go will likely be determined by how well the team plays defense and how well they play in goal. It would also help if the team shows some discipline, as they received far too many red cards last season and committed too many fouls.
América should definitely finish in the top eight this season and make the playoffs. If they can stay healthy and get a few breaks they might be a threat to Monterrey and Chivas in Liga MX in 2017-2018.
